Overview:
I have a singer/guitarist friend who uses a 'TC Ditto+' Looper pedal on stage to replay backing tracks.
Works very well -- but he really disliked having to tap the switch twice to stop the device!
So, I made a simple Interface that would allow him use an external footswitch to tap ONCE to start a track playing, and ONCE to stop it.
The Interface uses a couple of CMOS 4000 series IC's to perform all the logic functions - so no coding required.. Simple and effective!
The pages here show details of how the Interface works, and how it was constructed.
As the project progressed, I decided to build two different versions, to cover more options...

• The 'One Switch' version uses a single external 'normally closed' (n.c.) footswitch to provide a simple 'start and stop' only function... This is for when the Looper is being used only as a playback device.

• The 'Two Switch' version uses two external 'normally closed' (n.c.) footswitches:
-- One switch duplicates all the functions of the push button switch already fitted to the Looper.
-- The second switch works as a dedicated 'stop' switch, to stop the device with a single tap, once it's running.

To see details of the circuits and suggested stripboard layouts, simply press on either of the version buttons at the top or bottom of this page.

The 'Construction' page shows details of some of the mechanics involved.

The 'Operation' page describes the detailed functions of both Interface versions.

• Here's a short video clip showing the 'One Switch' version in action •
